Faculty
The IDEA alliance is on hiatus for the remainder of 2010 due to budget cutbacks. Homeland security courses are offered locally at member institutions. Browse the Alliance Catalog and contact the individual universities about when courses will be offered.
Faculty members from Alliance universities guide selection, development, and assessment of shared homeland security courses. Each university approves the Alliance courses following its own procedures before courses become available to its students.
Student Learning Outcomes for all Alliance courses have been determined by the Faculty Team:
- Define and identify vulnerabilities, threats, and hazards
- Assess risk
- Plan for emergency action
- Formulate prevention and mitigation strategies
- Organize responses
- Manage recovery operations
- Evaluate effectiveness
Thanks to the HECA grants from the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Alliance funded development of online homeland security courses by faculty and technical support teams in the member institutions. Recognizing the importance of sharing courses notable for excellence, the Alliance Faculty Team has developed two instruments for assuring quality.
- Each online course developed with Alliance funds is evaluated using a rubric developed by Alliance members.
- An assessment rubric is being developed for all Alliance courses to determine whether students will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to meet the Alliance Student Learning Outcomes.
In 2008, the Faculty Team began consideration of shared homeland security certificate and degree options for the Alliance.
