Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the essential preparedness, planning, and operational components necessary to sustain a hospital’s targeted level of service during and after a mass casualty /Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) incident.
- Analyze the basic incident management framework for local, regional, state, and federal response to a mass casualty / WMD incident.
- Identify basic categories of resources that are available from public, private, and volunteer agencies when responding to a mass casualty / WMD incident, to include resource availability, accessibility, and expected deployment.
- Critique appropriate segments of an emergency plan — principally regarding operations for a mass casualty / WMD incident.
- Analyze the perceived and potential roles of various healthcare providers and operational segments of a healthcare system when responding to mass casualty / WMD incidents.
- Demonstrate effective communication with appropriate constituencies to manage both hospital and healthcare system responses to a mass casualty / WMD incident.
- Demonstrate effective decision-making during emergency preparedness planning.
- Prepare segments of a hospital emergency plan
Health Care Security and Disaster Preparedness
Credit Hours: 3
Description: Focuses on the assessment of health needs of specific communities when compromised by events impacting homeland security. Provides strategies for planning and implementing plans developed in collaboration with local governmental agencies, public and private health sector providers and county and state health agencies.
